I keep reading people complain that NPR is “silencing” opinions and free speech by firing Juan Williams for saying he gets scared when he sees Muslims on an airplane. He can share his opinions all he wants with whoever he wants, but part of the Code of Ethics for journalists reads:
— Avoid stereotyping by race, gender, age, religion, ethnicity, geography, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance or social status.
So if you want to be a journalist, keep your stereotyping opinions to yourself.
