NY State plans to spend $400 million for a pretty much useless pedestrian/bike lane across the new Tappan Zee Bridge when there are much better places that money could be spent.
For the $400 million which governor Andrew Cuomo is planning to spend on a white-elephant bike lane almost nobody is going to use, you could utterly transform the bicycling infrastructure for millions of New Yorkers in all five boroughs.
I like “Gridlock” Sam Schwartz’s plan for a bike/pedestrian bridge from Hoboken to Manhattan.
These are utterly wonderful ideas. If beautiful new pedestrian bridges can be built by Santiago Calatrava in Venice or by Norman Foster in London, there’s no reason New York can’t follow suit.

The steel on One World Trade Center has reached the 100th floor.
This picture I took last week makes the small airplane look almost attached to the crane on the left.
New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC) Senior Engineer Brad Miller has been named to the Board of Directors of the State Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council.
Miller was the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Project Team Manager during the construction of the NJMC Center for Environmental and Scientific Education (Science Center), which in 2009 became the first public building in New Jersey to achieve LEED Platinum Certification.
A Hoboken resident, Miller is vice chairman of the Committee for a Green Hoboken and sits on the Board of Directors of the Fund for a Better Waterfront and the Hoboken Quality of Life Coalition. He is also a member of the Hoboken Green Team.

Hoboken denies film permit for ‘Jersey Shore’ spinoff starring JWoww and Snooki
The city of Hoboken has denied a filming request for a “Jersey Shore” spinoff series based in the city. In a letter posted to the city of Hoboken’s website, Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer wrote, “Based on protecting public safety and quality of life concerns for Hoboken residents, the city has denied a film permit for a spin-off of the Jersey Shore to be filmed in public locations.”

Snow in October (Taken with Instagram at City of Hoboken)
It was my third week of my freshman year of college. As I walked out of the dining hall after finishing breakfast at about a quarter to 9 I heard a girl exclaim “oh my God, that’s the World Trade Center!” I thought to myself, wow, what an idiot… after three weeks she just finally noticed where the WTC is? But as I turned my head around to face toward lower Manhattan about 1.5 miles across the Hudson River, I realized there was a gaping hole in the side of the North Tower. My first instinct was to immediately run to my dorm room and get my camera.
I originally made this video around the 5 year anniversary of the attacks. It’s edited from footage and pictures my father, college TV station (which I later became the General Manager of) and I took.
On one hand there’s no need to dwell on the past, but on the other, as cliche as it is to say, it’s important to make sure we never forget. I think one of the saddest memories is that of all the “missing” persons posters plastered on utility poles, bus stops and walls throughout the NYC area. That at the time these people’s loved ones and friends still had hope that their brother, sister, son, daughter, father, mother, partner, and friend was still out there somewhere, simply “missing” and would somehow be found. What else can you do when someone never came home one day but somehow look for them?
Although they had to know the tragic truth in the back if their mind even if they had not yet allowed themselves to accept it.
I feel that at least there is some sort of closure now that the new 1 WTC is finally looming over the lower Manhattan skyline
holy shit thats crazy.
